Ashdod is home to about 250,000 residents and one of Israel's main Mediterranean ports. Around 25,000 tech professionals and founders live in the greater Ashdod and Gan Yavne area, yet most of them still commute north every morning.
That gap is the opportunity. The city is investing heavily to bring tech jobs home, and the port has become one of Israel's more interesting testbeds for startups.
In September 2025 the Ashdod municipality presented a new innovation district at the city's southern entrance, an investment of roughly NIS 10 billion.
Ashdod Port launched its incubator in 2021, focusing on logistics, cybersecurity, safety and maritime technology. In 2022 it invested NIS 4.5 million in four startups after pilots averaging six months inside the port. According to Deloitte, more than 100 companies have run proofs of concept at the port.
For startups in logistics, supply chain, cyber or industrial tech, Ashdod offers something rare: real operations to test on.
